  • NEW CLASS - SIGN UP TODAY!
    LegosLEGO Action! For preschool Children
    One recent first grade student described LEGO Action as "... his best happiness ever!" LEGO Action classes for preschool children and Mom's will run on Thursday's September 24th - October 29th and again November 19th - December 17th. The time is 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Attend one session or all six. Each week LEGO builders will develop new LEGO skills by focusing on different themes... cars, planes, bridges, towers, spaceships, and buildings; with over 100,000 different bricks! Taught by Jo-Ann Gorrell, founder, Engineering Action. Jo-Ann is a mechanical engineer dedicated to hands-on learning for children and adults. Her classes have been featured through a number of schools on the North Shore.

    Calling all Junior Engineers! The Community House is now excepting reservations for the start of our Fun Science program scheduled for early release Wednesday's in October with Jo-Ann Gorrell, founder of Engineering Action.  Sign up for one or all three Wednesday’s.     10:00 am ~ $3.00 includes lecture with audio, visuals, discussion, coffee/tea. Pre-registration appreciated but not necessary.

    This series will feature prominent representatives from a number of different disciplines including local history, politics, science, animal behavior, sports figures of note, the arts and more...

    An eclectic mix with something for everyone, please keep an eye out!

    The Community House will be adding food for thought with our new Speaker Series. These morning segments will run once or twice a month and are intended for anyone hoping to get the inside scoop on a number of different topics.  Each speaker will bring a wealth of information.  Sessions will be held in a relaxed environment with coffee and tea.  Extra time will be available for an open discussion and/or a question/answer session.

    Tuesday, October 13 - Conserving the Landscape of Essex County with Ed Becker
    Ed Becker, the executive director of Essex County Greenbelt, will present a program describing the distinctive landscape of Essex County and the conservation work of Greenbelt, a private nonprofit land trust.  The presentation will feature beautiful nature photography, and will examine the history of the conservation movement in the U.S. from Teddy Roosevelt to the present day.

    Ed Becker has over thirty years of experience in land conservation and environmental protection, and has been the executive director of Essex County Greenbelt since 1987.  He has presented programs and been engaged in conservation projects in the U.S., Latin American and Europe. http://www.ecga.org/

    Wednesday, November 18 - History of Salem with Arthur Burt - The significance of Salem Port, pre and post revolution.

    An overview of Salem Harbor, pre and post American Revolution.  This was presented at the recent World History Conference at Salem State College.  Professor Burt will concentrate on the Salem Maritime Society, its charter, members and influence on world trade.

    Arthur Burt is a professor in the history department at Salem State College and is developing an historical curriculum with site visitations of European WWII battlefields concentrating on the Allied invasion of France and the Allied occupation of Paris.

    Tuesday, December 8 - Gender Stereotyping with Kara Kaufman - Early-to-mid American 20th century advertising.

    In this lecture Kara Kaufman explores male and female gender roles in the methods advertisers employed in the early to mid 20th century to sell items coming off the assembly lines and how they ingrained what it meant to be a "real" man or "real" woman. Has anything changed?

    Kara Kaufman is a professor of history at Salem State College.  She is interested in gender, sexuality, religion, the abuse of power and postmodern philosophies.

    The Community House Board of Directors cordially invites you to an evening of dining and dancing to help us defray the construction expense of our beautiful portico.
    Cocktails & Hors d'oeuvres will be served from 6:30 to 7:30pm followed by a Short Plate Style Dinner and Live Music and Dancing til 11pm
    A $5,000 Raffle winner will be drawn with a 2nd Prize of $500, 3rd Prize $250 and 4th Prize of $150. Raffle tickets are $50 each and are available from any Board Member or at the Community House. You do not need to be present to win.
